Nathan’s Nuggets

July 8, 2008

Well, it hasn’t even been a month and I already feel a part of the Tusculum family.  I want to thank everyone for being so hospitable during my first few weeks here at TCPC.  All the prayers and encouraging words have been much appreciated.

            Most of my time so far has been spent seeking wisdom from others and talking with others about YAM (Young Adult Ministry).  Luckily there are many people who have a heart for YA around town and have been extremely open to share ideas and insight with me.

            This Wednesday (July 9th) will be the first time a group of us will meet.  I am excited about what God has in store for us as we begin this journey.  I wanted to take this opportunity to share a few upcoming things and some other nuggets.

            Very soon there will be a YA room.  It is the room upstairs with the purple walls and door to the sound booth.  Right now it’s not much of anything but with a little love I plan on it being a sacred space for YA’s at TCPC.  I have already spent some time in that room visualizing what it could be like and praying for it to become a great space for YA.  It will take some time, but sooner than later it will be complete and ready for use.

            On August 3, I plan on starting a new class on Sunday mornings.  Here are a few reasons why not sooner.  One, I want to take some time and try to get the room upstairs ready.  Two, I want to meet a few times with people and discuss what they would like to have happen at that meeting.  Third, I want people who might be interested to come to make plans to be there and hit the ground running.  Any helpful suggestions or prayers are encouraged and wanted.

            Lastly, since I am a follower of Jesus I believe it is good to (as they say) break bread together.  Because of that I am starting the F.N.P. at TCPC.  You might be asking yourself right now what is that…well it’s really simple.  F.N.P. stands for Feed Nathan Program.  This is how it works.

  1. A person, group, or family, invite me to eat with them.  It can be at a restaurant, at a park, at their home, wherever people might find themselves eating.
  2.  Then…they feed me.

It’s just that simple.  There will be a sign up sheet and all you have to do is pick a date that is convenient for you and sign up.  There might be one more question you have and it might be when will the F.N.P. end?  That is a good question and the answer is neverJ  You can Feed Nathan whenever you would like and as much as you would like.

There are lots of things on the horizon so I just ask that all of you pray that God leads us and we follow him wherever that takes us.    Peace

I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU

The Dixie Echoes Are Coming to Tusculum!!

For nearly 50 years, The Dixie Echoes have been delivering the good news of the Gospel through their spiritually uplifting musical ministry.  Since their formation in 1960, The Dixie Echoes have enjoyed much success and are probably best remembered for their performances on the Gospel Singing Jubilee, which aired in the late 60’s and early 70’s.  The quartet consists of long-time lead vocalist Randy Shelnut, baritone Randy Shelnut Jr., tenor Wesley Smith, and bass vocalist Pat Barker.  The quartet is accompanied by award winning pianist Stewart Varnado.  Although considered to be one of the pioneer Gospel groups, The Dixie Echoes have maintained a refreshing vocal style and a diverse song selection that appeal to audiences of all ages.

This concert will begin at 7:00 PM.  The concert is free. A love offering will be taken to pay for the Dixie Echoes travel expenses. Be here and receive a blessing!!!  Bring your friends!!!

You are the chosen of the Lord

To sing His highest praise;

And through medium of song

To show His wondrous ways.

Yours is the privilege of grace;

Your words His truths express;

Through sacred music you promote

The cause of righteousness.

So lift your voice with one accord

And let your anthems ring;

The people will be richly blessed;

And God will hear you sing.
